Two former Inland Northwest residents are among 32 American students to be selected as Rhodes scholars.

Byron D. Gray and Cameron W. Turtle, both currently seniors at the University of Washington, are being awarded scholarships to the prestigious University of Oxford in England, according to the Associated Press.

The winners were selected from 830 applicants endorsed by 299 colleges and universities. The scholars will enter Oxford next October. The value of the scholarships averages about $50,000 per year.

Gray, formerly of Post Falls, will pursue master’s degrees in contemporary India and socio-legal studies while at Oxford, according to scholarship officials. Turtle, formerly of Pullman, plans to pursue a doctorate in cardiovascular medicine.
