RRHS grad almost had Wright stuff to be Rhodes Scholar

For someone who’d recently learned her hopes of being a Rhodes Scholar had gone up in flames, Kandis Wright sure seemed upbeat.

Why?

“I’m going to be a doctor,” she said, having already been accepted to the University of New Mexico’s Medical School.

Still, she was somewhat disappointed in not being accepted as a Rhodes Scholar, a privilege extended to only 32 American students annually.

“The odds (were) very, very slim,” she said, relating how she initially was among about 20 applicants at UNM, how that list was whittled down to about eight and then interviews were conducted, getting that list down to four.
