Jacob Burnett: Wabash College senior bound for Oxford in the fall

Jacob Burnett’s life changed last month in ways he probably can’t fully comprehend yet.
“You know that moment you’re a Rhodes scholar,” Burnett said of the Nov. 22 announcement that he was one of 32 scholars named this year. “It’s a moment that your life will never be the same. I was speechless.”
For Burnett, 21, it was a successful completion of a three-month application process he started in August with 1,600 other college seniors. To be eligible, he needed eight letters of recommendation from Wabash College faculty members and an endorsement from the college. There were other tasks, including a personal statement and list of his activities in the community and college, he had to accomplish before making the final 207 applicants to get an interview.
