Tibetan student wins Rhodes Scholarship

Tenzin Seldon, a Tibetan senior at Stanford University majoring in comparative studies in race and ethnicity has become the first Tibetan to win the prestigious Rhodes Scholarship.

Announcing the names of the 32 US based recipients of one of the world’s most celebrated academic honours, the Rhodes Trust yesterday in a statement noted Tenzin’s passion “to use her life to bring justice, freedom and equality to the Tibetan people.”

"She is already a major Tibetan leader of the Tibetan diaspora nationally. In addition, she is a fellow at the Center for Companion and Altruism Research and Education at the Stanford School of Medicine, did research among Tibetan refugees in India, and is on the board of directors of The Stanford Daily,” the Rhodes Trust said in the statement.
